I was lying on my futon. Not a big deal; lots of people do that.
But, WHILE I was lying on my futon, the fern with the hundreds of small crinkled leaves up each stem was rustling.
Every few seconds, a dried leaf would hit the ground. It does drop leaves regularly, and replace them, so I didn't think much of it at first. But it seemed to be a little too regular, and the fern itself was quivering a little bit.
I peered at it, from my futon, and couldn't see anything wrong. I went back to my book. Then I heard a thud come from the fern.
What the!
I got up, pulled the fern away from the wall, and basically half the back of the plant seemed to fall away. The floor was absolutely covered in dead leaves and small green-black round balls, and one enormous, stunned caterpillar. It was brown, with small patterns up its sides, and it was fat, and was curled in on itself, evidently miserably dwelling on its unsuccessful suicide attempt.
You need to jump from something higher, dude. Sheesh.
I picked it up with chopsticks and took it outside, where it indignantly crept away from me without a backwards peep.
Cute!
It looked nothing like the following caterpillar

but I like the looks of this handsome chap nonetheless.
